Blogging is now one of the most popular ways to express yourself through
writing. Whether it be about your personal lifestyle, a topic which you are
most interested in, or even for fundraising. Since the invention of Internet,
the social media sector has been jam-packed with people from all over the world
writing to express themselves and in the hope of drawing attention to their
cause. So, with their being so many writers out there, it is by no doubt
difficult to attract readers. Why is someone going to read your blog over all the others? Let’s take a look at some
top tips for writing great content and attracting readers to your blog.
A
good blogger will realise and know
what people want and by giving the readers what they want, it is a win-win situation.
A good writer should also be able to write naturally – putting meaning and
passion into a blog will allow for great content, giving the reader a personal
feeling and ability to connect and relate with the writer through their words.
When writing a blog, focus is needed on content before advertising or reaching
out in any way.
Be Visual
Adding quality photos, videos, and pictures can help in drawing more attraction to your
blog. Many people like to see things visually and adding photos to reflect on
your words can really help a reader connect with your writing. Photos and
videos are important in catching a moment in time and sharing this with your
readers adds a nice, personal touch.
Avoid Blogging About
Anything That Might Offend
It can be a painful and fatal error to blog about something that may offend a potential reader. If you are
thinking of blogging about religion, politics or even humor, think carefully
before you write. Not only is it likely that you will offend and turn away
readers but with most blogs set to allow comments, bad feedback can damage a
reputation and future blog posts. Stick to something that is suitable for
everyone.
Put Thought Into The
Title
A blog title is the
first thing that catches a readers eye and will determine whether or not they
will take interest. People are attracted to blog titles that are
interesting, surprising, and curious. It can be a shame to put hard
work, effort and great content into a blog, only for it to be skipped because
the title is bland. Put some thought into a catchy title before you publish
your blog. Have you ever judged a book by its cover? I’m pretty sure that for most
of you, the answer is yes.
Be Consistent
After
putting time and effort into your blogging, nothing is more rewarding than
achieving your aim and attracting attention, but don’t let it stop there.
Continuing to blog each day, week, or at least at regular intervals will keep
your readers interested and they will return to read more and become loyal
fans. Blogging can become somewhat of a commitment and if you want to keep
people interested it is important to be consistent, unless you are just looking
for a one hit wonder that is.
Local Or World-Wide?
Are
your potential readers local or from other countries? Depending on the reasons
why you decide to open a blog, you may prefer one or the other. For example, if
you happen to have a small business in Nigeria, it wouldn’t make sense to make
enormous efforts to make the blog internationally known (at least not right
away); you’d probably be more interested in making your blog BIG in your
country first! Chances are that people from the United States, Canada or the UK
will not be interested in buying used clothes, or look for jobs from Nigeria,
but for the locals… they find it very interesting!
But
what if you and your band decide to make a blog about your music? Of course
your interest is to go world-wide and reach anyone that could like your music!
For example, let’s say you’re part of Hessler, a Chicago rock band. In this
case it’s important to have local readers / followers, but you’re also very
open to fans from anywhere where you’d like to go on a tour with your band, be
famous and make money.
