WordPress Adding Widgets To Your Sidebar


A “widget” is a tool or piece of content that you can drag and drop to your sidebar or other “widget area” on your blog. It makes it easy to customize your blog by adding and removing functionality.

Widgets can be accessed from Appearance->Widgets in your dashboard.

To add a widget, drag the widget from the Available Widgets or Inactive Widgets area on the left into the Sidebar area on the right. When you see a dashed line appear, you can drop the widget into place.

Ordering Widgets

You can also change the order of the widgets by dragging and dropping them around in the sidebar. Once again, when you see the dashed line appear, you can drop the widget into place.

Configuring Widgets

Each widget has it’s own configuration options. To make changes to a widget in the sidebar, click on the triangle on the right side.
This will open up the options for the widget. After you have have made your changes to the widget options, click the Save button.

Removing or Deactivating Widgets

If you would like to DELETE a widget from the sidebar or other widget area, click the Delete link in the configuration options as show above.
Alternatively, you can make the widget INACTIVE by dragging it to the “Inactive Widgets” section to save it for later. This will keep any settings that you have saved.
